I'm new to meta trader. Someone I date online introduced me to it. I tried to set up an account but all I found on the drop-down is test accounts. So they told me they can set up an account for me... That was suspicious. Why can't I set up an account myself? They created an account for me under their company and was told that the minimum deposit is $1,000. Is this a scam or is this normal?

If you want to open a live account (which I don't recommend doing at your stage of learning yet) and to trade on it with MetaTrader 5 platform, then you can open such an account yourself with any of the MT5 Forex brokers. However, if you are new to Forex, it is best to stick to demo trading until you become very confident in what you are doing.

I see, thanks. But other than that what I described is normal or not?

Someone creating an account for you? No, that isn't normal and could possibly be scam or at least inconvenience you in the future when you need to change something with your account. I recommend opening a live account only yourself.
