With fundamental macro analysis however, one is usually able to gain a better understanding as to what motivates buyers and sellers and as a consequence one is able to trade a specific trend with more conviction.

The key to making money in the markets lies in figuring out the motives behind buyers and sellers. If all market players only relied on technical analysis, then obviously that would be the only input in the decision making process of all buyers and sellers. Unfortunately buyers and sellers are motivated by many more factors, fundamental, economic, political etc. By leaving the study of those out of ones analysis, one would be missing important pieces of the puzzle.
