What Is Alligator Indicator?
Bill Williams created several technical indicators that together are widely used as a foundation for trading strategies. One of these indicators is Alligator.
Bill Williams created this indicator by combining the following three moving averages:
- Jaw — a smoothed moving average of period 13 and shift 8.
- Teeth — a smoothed moving average of period 8 and shift 5.
- Lips — a smoothed moving average of period 5 and shift 3.
Alligator Alert Indicator
MetaTrader platform includes Bill Williams' Alligator among its standard indicators, however, it has no notification feature.
In many cases, traders want to get notifications when all three moving averages are one on top of the other. This situation usually indicates that there could be a trading opportunity.
You can use such alerts in both trend following and trend reversal strategies.
This missing MetaTrader feature appears in our Alligator Alert indicator presented below.
This indicator allows you to receive alerts when Alligator starts opening its mouth, that is, when the moving averages are all aligned. You can receive notifications via:
- Mobile app
- On screen
Another useful feature of this Alligator Alert indicator is that it can draw arrows for buy and sell signals when the three moving averages cross.
