No, they are not trying for a common currency and definitely not like euro. What they are trying to do is to set up a free trade zone for all of asia, exchange swap agreements and with BRICS, set up development bank and shore up against any currency risks.
In short, like BRICS, the asian nations are taking a page out of euro and upgrading it to a more reliable model.

Very well said Fxpipper. The Euro as an idea was great, but they failed to implement it properly. The US had its issues when ti switched to a single currency and if leaders would take the necessary steps, which is very doubtful, the Euro could turn around.

I know, it makes more sense to adopt a asean approach and if Euro had followed suit, they wouldn't be in this mess..
Guess there's some truth to Margaret Thatcher's reluctance to join the euro club..she was one smart woman, the devil in disguise or not..
