I think it’s still helpful to practice with a demo in the beginning, but it’s important to be aware of the biggest difference being that nothing is at risk. Still, demo accounts can help people to avoid losing money since they get a little more experience and then one can start with a micro account and move up.
I feel demo accounts affect the trading psychology of the trader a lot. Traders use the demo account with a mindset of not using their own money hence they take more risks than their appetite, but when they start trading on their live accounts they tend to follow the same mindset and take risk without proper assessment.
I mean, you are automatically presumed that it is called "Demo" which means there is no worrying if there is no real money being incurred when trading, as compared to live account.
Before you start trading on demo, you already had your mindset on this that there is no money values involved in that. Hence, you are not feared out, even if you accidentally wipe out your account.
Since we trade on demo account with virtual money, in fact, no investment at all, so we do not feel the pain of losing money. However, we must consider that we have lost here, it could have been with our real money. Thus, demo trading should be taken very seriously. Most of the traders do not do it. Consequently, they lose real money and at the end of the day they lose hope as well as confidence.
As no real money is involved in demo trading, you don’t feel the actual risk. That’s what a demo account fails at making you well-versed with. That’s why I think that demo trading should be done for some time only until you learn using a trading platform and get an introduction to the live market. Once it’s done, open a micro account and start with live trading. You will learn better.
The risk is associated with trading because real money is in line. Without money there isn’t any risk, this is why demo accounts feel safest. When there’s risk involved, traders have to battle their emotions in order to make unbiased decisions. If traders start taking the demo account seriously only then they can find themselves in a similar situation which they face in the live market conditions. But the truth is, losses incurred on a demo account are easily forgotten.
Demo Trading is useful to protect capital when you are learning a strategy , The time frame of consistent profitability is unknown as it depends on your skill levels and how fast you learn a strategy. Serious Business of Trading requires steps some are as follows (1) how to manage risk , (2) Trade sample size say greater than 100 trades to know if the system works for you (3) Adjust your life style while you are trading a demo account.
It is all about taking the benefit of demo account while loosing any real amount of money before you are ready to invest as a Trader
Online brokers freely offer forex demo accounts. They offer a generous amount of virtual money for trading. A demo account helps a trader become familiar with trading software and also helps to know how the trading market works. As a result, traders who are still inexperienced in the trading market can boost their confidence without putting their real money at risk.
